AURORA, Colo. - Fireworks were suspected of igniting a small brush fire at Great Plains Park in Aurora on the Fourth of July but after an investigation, it was determined a model rocket was to blame for starting the 3-acre fire.
The brush fire was quickly extinguished. No damage was reported.
The fire was reported around 2:55 p.m. Thursday and then was said to be out by 3:05 p.m.
The Aurora Fire Department said a model rocket is not considered fireworks, but is still illegal. The two brothers responsible will be fined, they said.
Great Plains Park is located at Jewell Avenue and South Dunkirk Street.
Fireworks are illegal in Aurora and most of the state.
