COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Drivers passing by Peterson Air Force Base and residents living near the Colorado Springs Airport should not be worried if they see fire or smoke between 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Friday.
The Peterson Air Force Base fire department is conducting a routine fire training exercise for emergency responders. The base said these periodic training exercises ensure responders are able to handle emergency situations regarding the base and the Colorado Springs airport.
As part of a cooperative agreement, Peterson firefighters are the primary response agency for handling all aircraft and civilian airport emergencies.
The training center has substantial safety controls during these training exercises, the base said.
