COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Several dozen homes south of Colorado Springs have been evacuated due to a growing brush fire.

Fire crews from El Paso and Pueblo counties are responding to the Carson Midway fire, which as of 1 p.m. Friday had burned several hundred acres in the Indian Village Heights area southeast of Fort Carson.

Evacuations are underway in an area roughly bounded by I-25, Military Reservation Boundary Road, Donner Pass View and County Line Road.

An evacuation center has been set up at Fountain Valley Baptist Church, 500 W. Alabama Ave. in Fountain. The Colorado State Fairgrounds also is open to take in large animals.

The Pueblo County Sheriff's Office reports no structures in the county have been affected by the blaze. El Paso County, however, reports that structures have been lost, but it's unknown how many structures were consumed by the flames.

Fire danger has been high across the state due to warm, dry conditions.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
