Fire, explosion reported at Colorado Springs apartment building

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Firefighters battled a 3-alarm fire at an apartment building in Colorado Springs Sunday night.

The fire broke out at the Retreat at Austin Bluffs, near Austin Bluffs Parkway between Oro Blanco Drive and Barnes Road, at about 10 p.m.

It started on the third floor of the building and burned through the roof, according to the Colorado Springs Fire Department.

Twelve units had to be evacuated and 20 people were displaced by the fire, officials said. No one was hurt.

The department initially responded to multiple reports about an explosion on the top floor, our partners at the Denver Post reported.

The cause is still being investigated.
