Fire causes power outage at VA Hospital; appointments canceled through noon

DENVER - A small fire at the Veterans Hospital in Denver has knocked out power.
Firefighters say the hospital is on auxiliary power while crews work to fix the problem.
Denver Fire Department spokesman Mark Watson tells the Denver Post no firefighters or patients were injured in the fire, which was contained to a substation.
The power outage has forced the VA Hospital to cancel all outpatient appointments, including dialysis, until noon on Wednesday, according to Dan Warvi, spokesman for the VA Eastern Colorado Health Care System.
Warvi said patients can call 303-399-8020 to make a new appointment. If you have an afternoon appointment, you should also call the same phone number to verify that the power has been restored.
The VA Hospital is on 9th and Clermont Street in Denver.
Xcel Energy officials said the utility is not to blame. They said the customer's own wiring is down.
