DURANGO, Colo. - The Durango Police Department is asking the FBI to help investigate after dozens of people who registered for the Iron Horse Bicycle Classic reported that their credit cards were compromised.

Event director Gaige Sippy tells The Durango Herald that race officials are still trying to identify the cause of the breach, and "as of right now, there is no clear path."

Numerous people have reported fraudulent activity on their cards since last Sunday, including Ed Zink, the ride's co-founder.

An estimated 2,500 credit cards were used by people registering for the Iron Horse Bicycle Classic events over Memorial Day weekend.

Organizers are unsure how widespread the problem is and whether all the credit cards used to register were compromised.
