WELD COUNTY, Colo. - One man was killed and another was hurt in a crash involving a car and a pickup truck on State Highway 14 and Weld County Road 31.
Colorado State Patrol Trooper Josh Lewis Donald Swets, 49, of Severance, was driving a 1989 Ford pickup truck when he was involved in the crash with a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am driven by Billy Douglass, 46, of Evans, Colorado State Patrol Trooper Josh Lewis said.
Lewis said the Pontiac was northbound on Weld County Road 31. As it approached the stop sign at Colo. 14, it swerved to the left to avoid another vehicle that was stopped at the stop sign and entered the intersection at a high rate of speed. The front of Swets’ Ford pickup hit the right side of the Pontiac. Both vehicles went off the road.
Swets was pronounced dead at the scene. Douglass was taken to North Colorado Medical Center with serious injuries that were not life threatening, according to the Greeley Tribune.
