Ex-Montezuma County undersherif in embezzlement case sentenced

A former Montezuma County undersheriff accused of using taxpayer money to pay for personal items, including firearms, has been sentenced to 30 days in jail.

The Cortez Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1gJcyqY ) Robin Cronk was sentenced Friday. He pleaded guilty in March to a felony count of embezzlement and a misdemeanor count of official misconduct.

As part of the plea deal, Cronk was allowed to choose a detention center other than the Montezuma County jail because of safety concerns and conflicts of interest with local authorities. He will serve his sentence in the Mesa County Jail.

Cronk was initially charged with 17 embezzlement counts and one count of official misconduct involving purchases totaling more than $7,400. He was accused of trying to sell some of the firearms by posting classified ads.
