Ethics pannel hearing evidence about Secretary of State Scott Gessler's use of funds

DENVER - A state ethics panel is still hearing evidence about whether Secretary of State Scott Gessler wrongfully used state funds to attend the Republican national convention.

Gessler has maintained that he did nothing wrong and that the purpose of his travel was to attend a Republican panel on elections law in Tampa last summer during the convention.

State controller Robert Jaros testified Friday that attending the panel fit under Gessler's job description.

Former secretary of state Bernie Buescher also testified about a trip he took to Taiwan that was only partly business. He used state money to pay for the trip to meet with dignitaries but also attended his daughter's wedding.

Gessler says he used campaign funds for expenses at the political convention. Last month, he repaid the state $1,278 for travel expenses.
