Escapee tries climbing out 20th floor window in Denver, but gets caught in nearby trash chute

DENVER - A man who escaped from a federal prison in Texas tried to escape authorities in Denver this week by climbing out a 20th story window -- but he was caught.

U.S. Marshals say 30-year-old Donnie Lee Griffin of Tampa, Fla., was arrested Wednesday after task force members went to an apartment linked to him.

They saw that someone had used sheets to escape out of the window. A resident on the floor below said a man passed through that apartment and ran down the stairs. Authorities locked down the building and searched it, eventually finding Griffin stuck in the trash chute.

Griffin escaped from FCI La Tuna in Anthony, Texas, in September. The next month, the Orlando Sentinel published his obituary, but authorities say they continued to track his aliases.
