When ARC Thrift President and CEO Lloyd Lewis moved into a waterfront two-bedroom condo in a west Denver development, he naturally wanted to furnish it tastefully -- with one proviso.
Everything had to come from an ARC thrift store, the budget-friendly nonprofit that helps improve the lives of people with developmental disabilities.
Plates, flatware, stemware, pots, pans, furniture, beds, linens, artwork, rugs, lamps. And it had to look elegant and masculine, not aDIY project gone wrong.
Lewis delegated this job to Frances Owens (Colorado's former first lady, now ARC's community relations director), and Barb Tobias, a Denver Post contributor and founder of the website ThriftTalkDiva.com.
They had one month and a budget of $1,500.
