ENGLEWOOD, Colo. – Police are searching for a 17-year-old mother and her 7-month-old child who they believe are endangered.
Jessica Schnitzer left an Englewood group home Saturday night with her daughter, La’Nayah Medina. Jessica does not have legal guardianship of her daughter, who is in state custody at Third Way Center.
Englewood Police are concerned because they say Jessica is mentally unstable and is believed to have suicidal tendencies. She has not been able to care for her daughter in the past.
Police say Jessica left Third Way Center, located in the area of South Broadway and West Chenango Avenue, without taking proper clothing or care items for La’Nayah, including a car seat, formula, and diapers.
While Jessica does not have full legal custody, La'Nayah was staying with her mom at the group home, which is not a locked facility.
Englewood Police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating La’Nayah and Jessica, who is described as a white female with brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing dark sweatpants and a white T-shirt.
Jessica and her baby may be with 17-year-old Maree Tibbetts, who is described as a Hispanic female with brown eyes and brown hair. She was last seen wearing a black hoodie, white shorts and athletic shoes.
Police say Maree was staying with Jessica at Third Way Center. It’s not known if the missing women are on foot or somehow obtained a ride.
