Elderly homeowner fires shotgun through front door

Intoxicated suspect apparently confused houses

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Police are investigating a  shooting at elderly man's home involving a confused neighbor.

Police said they were called to the 400 block of W. Platte Ave. at 1:17 a.m. Saturday on a report of a burglary in progress.

Police were informed the home owner had fired a shotgun blast at a man through the front door of the residence.

Police found the uninjured suspect on the front porch of the home and a hole in the door.

The suspect was "extremely intoxicated and attempted to force entry into the neighbor's house," the police blotter said.

The couple's son told KKTV.com that the man was "charging really hard" against the door, trying to get in.

The 87-year-old homeowner grabbed his shotgun and fired a single warning shot through the front door, aiming over the man's head. His son told the station that the shot did nothing to deter the man, who kept pounding on the door.

Police said the suspect had recently moved into a home one block away from the victim's residence and apparently got the houses mixed up.

No charges have been filed, pending completion of the police investigation.   The suspect was taken to jail on an outstanding traffic warrant.
