ESTES PARK, Colo. - Roads on the east side of Rocky Mountain National Park have been closed, due to high winds, ground blizzards, poor visibility, drifting snow and ice.
The closures include U.S Highway 36 from the Beaver Meadows Visitor Center and U.S. Highway 34 at the Fall River Entrance, also known as Trail Ridge Road. The Wild Basin Road is also closed.
Trail Ridge Road is the highest continuous paved road in the United States and crosses the Continental Divide and has a maximum elevation of 12,183 feet.
Park rangers and snowplow operators will reassess conditions Thursday morning to determine when they can safely reopen roads on the east side of Rocky Mountain National Park.
