East Metro Auto Theft Team police officer hurt during arrest

Driver hit officer's car at high rate of speed

AURORA, Colo. - An Aurora Police officer was injured Wednesday as the East Metro Auto Theft Team moved in to arrest a suspect.

The EMATT was on South Salida Way near Quincy Avenue Wednesday morning when a wanted man tried to escape.

The wanted man threw his car into reverse and rammed a police officer's car, according to Aurora Police spokesman Cassidee Carlson.

Carlson said the suspect was able to hit a high rate of speed in a short distance.

The crash left one officer hurt, he was taken to the hospital. Carlson said there were reports another officer or two might need to be checked out at the scene, but she did not have any other details.

The driver and a female passenger were both arrested. The driver had several warrants, Carlson said.
