An East High School student who was arrested back in December after reportedly trying to rob another student with what turned out to be a fake BB gun, pleaded guilty to the crime on Friday.

Elhadji Samba Dioum, 19, was sentenced to two years of supervised probation and must perform 175 hours of community service as part of his sentence. Dioum is also prohibited from going anywhere that the victim might be located, such as the school and school events, according to Denver District Attorney's Office spokeswoman Lynn Kimborough.

The Dec. 3, 2015, incident prompted school officials to put the campus on lockdown for about two hours. Dozens of Denver police officers responded to the school on 1600 City Park Esplanade and arrested two students -- one of them Dioum -- in the gun scare.

Dioum pleaded guilty to third-degree assault in court Friday. As part of a plea deal, charges of attempted aggravated robbery, menacing, and theft from a person, were dismissed.
