Early morning apartment fire in Boulder displaces 25 people, 2 units gutted

Flames were leaping 40 feet above building

BOULDER, Colo. - An early morning apartment fire in Boulder has displaced about 25 residents.

The fire was reported about 3:30 a.m. at the apartment building at 2800 Springdale Lane, just northeast of the University of Colorado campus, said Boulder Fire spokeswoman Kim Kobel.

Flames were leaping 40 feet above the building when fire crews arrived, Kobel said.

Two units were a gutted, forcing a total of five residents to find new homes. But the only injury was a firefighter who sprained a shoulder, Kobel said.

Eight other units were temporarily evacuated. Overall, about 25 residents were displaced, but all but those living in the two destroyed units should be able to return to their apartments this afternoon, Kobel said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
