A five-day search for clues related to the death of Dylan Redwine in 2012 ended Monday with “items of interest” being recovered, the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office said.
Assisted by 16 other groups, the sheriff’s department concluded a five-day follow-up search on the upper reaches of Middle Mountain in northeast La Plata County for clues. The items of interest found will be tested and added to other evidence collected during the 3½-year investigation.
In June 2013, some of Redwine’s remains were found about 10 miles from his father’s home north of Vallecito Lake. La Plata County Sheriff’s investigators have identified Redwine’s father, Mark, as a person of interest in his death.
Recent searches have taken place near the area Redwine’s remains were found.
Redwine, 13 when he disappeared on a court-ordered visit with his father near Durango during Thanksgiving week in 2012. Some of the boy's remains were found in June 2013, north of his father's home.
Sheriff's investigators have searched Mark Redwine's home at least twice and he has taken a polygraph test with law enforcement. While he is a person of interest, authorities have never called Mark Redwine a suspect. He has never been arrested or charged.
