DURANGO, Colo. - The man who drowned in the Animas River in a piece of construction equipment has been identified as a 32-year-old contractor.
The Durango Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1ssZY28 ) that Charles William Huntoon Jr. was driving the skid steer. The equipment toppled into the river upside down Monday, trapping Huntoon inside for about 40 minutes.
Authorities say Huntoon was backing toward the river with an attachment on the skid-steer when the bank caved in.
Huntoon went by "Chip" and was the owner of CH Property Services, a Durango-area contractor.
