DU students build playhouse for family of adopted kids with special needs

University of Denver students wanted to build a super playhouse for a special family.

They found Scott and Wendi Smith's family. The couple had four biological children, but it was a trip to China years ago that changed their lives forever.

They adopted a little girl, Ellie, and brought her home to Colorado. But their commitment did not end there.

"Once we saw the orphanage and we were to see all the children who did not have families and did not have much of a hope or future...we talked about it, prayed about it and said, 'You know we have room in our home and especially more room in our hearts,'' recalled Scott Smith.

The Smiths made four more trips to China, each time bringing home a newly adopted child to their family. "Many of them have some sort of special needs that might scare people away from adopting them," Wendi explained.
