THORNTON, Colo. – A drug suspect who died in a Taser incident during an arrest in Thornton Thursday night has been identified.

The Adam’s County Coroner’s Office identified the suspect Wednesday as Alejandro Gutierrez, 44, of Northglenn. The cause and manner of his death is still under investigation.

A Federal Heights Police Officer Tased Gutierrez after he became combative with officers attempting to arrest him. The suspect was then taken into custody, and immediately experienced a medical episode. Paramedics rushed the Gutierrez to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police say Gutierrez injured three officers during the scuffle. The Thornton officers were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

Gutierrez was running from officers who suspected he was dealing drugs from his pickup truck parked at a Western Convenience Store in Thornton.

Police say they recovered a substantial amount of money from the suspect, and a large quantity of suspected drugs from the Gutierrez’s truck.
