Driver of stolen car narrowly misses hitting Colorado Springs officer, department says

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The driver of a stolen car narrowly missed a police officer on Tuesday night, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department.

Detectives said they spotted a stolen vehicle in the parking of a 7-Eleven convenience store around 10:30 p.m.

As the detective got out of his vehicle, the driver of the stolen car suddenly shifted into reverse, hitting the police cruiser and narrowly missing the detective before driving away, police said.

Officers chased the driver, but lost the vehicle.

Later, another detective spotted the vehicle on southbound Interstate 25, but the driver got away again.

The vehicle is described as a white Hyundai Sonata with damage to the right rear passenger door and possible damage to the rear end from striking the police cruiser..

Police said the plate last seen on the vehicle was 718ZBK.
