Driver hits man in Fort Collins crosswalk and drives off

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Fort Collins Police are trying to find the driver who hit a pedestrian in a crosswalk and drove off.

Police said two men, Stanley Brooks and Martin Church of Fort Collins, were crossing Constitution Avenue at West Elizabeth Street at 8:50 p.m. Thursday.

Witnesses said a driver stopped for the red light and appeared to look east while turning west into the crosswalk. Brooks was hit.

"The driver of the vehicle made no attempt to stop or render aid to Mr. Brooks," police said in a news release.

Brooks suffered serious, but not life-threatening injuries, police said.

Witnesses only got a vague description of the vehicle. Police said it was a late-1990s to early 2000s model, dark red or maroon-colored sedan. Witnesses said it might be an import model, such as a Honda or Toyota.

If you saw the crash or recognize the vehicle description, please call Officer David Kaes of the Fort Collins Police Traffic Unit at 970-221-6555.
