FAIRPLAY, Colo. - The Colorado State Patrol is investigating a three vehicle fatal crash that occurred on U.S. 285 near Fairplay on Sunday.
A 73-year-old driver from Denver died in the crash, which was reported around 12:30 p.m.
According to the Colorado State Patrol, a white 2012 Toyota Prius was southbound on Highway 285 and a blue 1999 International 9900 semi-trailer was traveling northbound.
The Prius drifted into the opposite lane of traffic, colliding with the International, then the rear duals of the trailer being pulled by the International.
A third vehicle, a silver 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac was traveling southbound on 285 and collided with the right rear of the Prius, the state patrol said.
The Prius driver was killed in the crash. No one else was injured, according to the CSP.
"Alcohol or drugs is not suspected as a contributing factor in the crash. A medical condition may be a factor," the state patrol said.
The highway was closed for hours.
The crash remains under investigation.
