DENVER — The Chief of Police in Denver may have had his mind on other opportunities recently; Robert White confirmed he applied for a new position with one of the nation's largest police forces.

Chief White applied for the available police chief position in Washington D.C. when it became available, however he was beaten out for the job by Chief Peter Newsham.

"Chief White did apply because of the unique opportunities it presented, such as, Washington D.C. PD is where he began his law enforcement career and where his son and grandson live," a Denver Police Department spokesperson said.

Denver Police say White has been recruited by other major police departments, but hasn't sought any of those positions.

"Chief White is strongly committed to the City and County of Denver and the Denver Police Department and plans to stay with DPD to continue transforming the department towards a more dynamic and innovative agency," a statement read.

Denver Police say White knows Newsham and congratulates him on his new position.
