CASTLE ROCK, Colo. - A Douglas County Sheriff's Office deputy was arrested on Friday evening after an investigation turned up inappropriate texts shared between the officer and a minor.
Sources told CALL 7 Investigator Theresa Marchetta the deputy shared explicit images with the juvenile.
Ron Hanavan, spokesman for the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, said an investigation into the deputy began earlier this week and culminated with his arrest on Friday. He was booked on two charges of sexual exploitation of a child.
According to the two felony charges filed, it lists the offenses including, "making of any sexually exploitative material" and, "possessing or controlling any sexually exploitative material for any purpose."
According to a CALL 7 source, the deputy, who is not being named by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, was taken to Arapahoe County Jail. He was released Saturday morning on $50,000 bond.
Hanavan said the deputy was placed on unpaid administrative leave. He added there also is an internal investigation and the office is thoroughly checking to see if any other Douglas County deputies were involved.
Hanavan said it is a very complex case. When asked if the sheriff's office was withholding the deputy's name to protect his identity, Hanavan said it was to protect the integrity of the investigation, and the deputy's name would be released soon.
Sources told CALL 7 that there will be at least one more arrest in the case.
