Douglas County schools test emergency alerts; say experiment with 9 school districts worked well

CASTLE ROCK, Colo. - Douglas County school officials say a test of an emergency contact system with other school districts worked well on Thursday.

School district spokeswoman Paula Hans says nine school districts participated as part of an experiment to show other districts could be quickly warned or notified of an incident at a school and take steps to protect their own students.

Hans says warnings can range from schools closed for snow days to potential threats, like a recent shooting at a school in neighboring Arapahoe County.

Hans said specific information on delivery time, emails and phone messages will not be released to ensure the system is secure.
