PARKER, Colo. -- A Douglas County Sheriff's Office member who went down in the line of duty has recovered to the point where he can be transferred to a new hospital to continue his treatment.

Detective Dan Brite suffered critical injury at the hands of a suicidal person who armed himself for a gunfight on Sept. 2.

More than a month later -- and after countless donations, prayers and procedures -- Brite has left the hospital to continue his treatment.

"Words cannot begin to express the gratitude and deep appreciation we have for our family, friends, community, our brothers and sisters in blue, and the entire team at Parker Adventist Hospital," Dan and Christine Brite said in a statement.

As he left Parker Adventist Hospital, hundreds of staffers lined up to thank Brite for protecting the community and helping to end an active shooter situation not far from the hospital's grounds.

Now, Brite will be treated at Craig Hospital, where he will continue his treatment.
