CENTENNIAL, Colo. – A plane carrying precious cargo will touch down at Centennial Airport Thursday morning.
More than 100 dogs and cats rescued from overpopulated shelters in southeast New Mexico are being flown to Colorado and Utah so they can find forever homes.
Representatives from several no-kill shelters in Colorado will be on hand at the airport Thursday to take delivery of about 60 dogs from the flight.
The animals are being transported by Dog Is My Copilot, an organization that flies hundreds of rescue animals each year.
The organization says the animals onboard the flight were all just days away from being euthanized.
The dogs are going to a variety of groups in Colorado including Good Dog Posse, Animal Rescue of the Rockies, Farfel's Farm, Rescue Rovers, Community Animal Welfare Alliance, Barkabull, Evergreen Animal Protection League and Max Fund.
