Dog shot in Lakewood, man in custody

LAKEWOOD, Colo. - Lakewood police are investigating a neighborhood dispute that involved a dog being shot.

Multiple Lakewood Police units, animal control and an ambulance could be seen at West 16th Avenue and Eaton Street, just before 4 p.m.  Yellow crime scene tape blocked off a parking lot and a block-wide area in the neighborhood.

Police said the dog was wounded and the suspect shooter accidentally shot himself in the leg.  He was in custody, according to Steve Davis, Lakewood Police PIO.  A second person received a very minor wound -- possibly from a ricochet -- but did not require hospitalization.

Police are still trying to sort out exactly what happened.

Streets are closed in the area.
