Dog shot by Denver police officer dies; cops say suspect ordered dog to attack

DENVER - Denver police say the dog shot by an officer shot during an arrest attempt Monday evening has died.

At about 7:30 p.m., officers attempted to arrest a wanted juvenile near 8th and Sheridan streets when the teen ordered his dog to attack an officer and fled the scene, according to tweets by the Denver Police Department.

Police tweeted Monday that the officer shot the dog as it attacked.

Witnesses told 7NEWS that they heard five gunshots at the scene and saw Denver Animal Control officers carry away the dog and load it into a van.
