Mike French was arrested on Feb. 8

The Douglas County Sheriff's deputy who is accused of sending inappropriate text messages to a child has been fired.

Deputy Robert "Mike" French was arrested on Feb. 8 after a week of investigation into accusations. According to Ron Hanavan, spokesman for the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, French was booked on two charges of sexual exploitation of a child and later posted $50,000 bond for those charges.

Hanavan originally told 7NEWS the deputy was placed on unpaid administrative leave, but in a Monday update, Hanavan announced that French had been fired.

"On 02/11/13 Robert French’s employment with DCSO has been terminated for department policy violations and alleged criminal conduct," Hanvan wrote.

Hanavan said the case is under active investigation and the court has issued a motion to limit pre-trial publicity and seal the case.
