DENVER - The search continued Saturday or a Denver woman who traveled the world with her husband then disappeared on a neighborhood walk in Texas.
Leanne Hecht Bearden, 33, went missing in San Antonio a week ago, while she and her husband were staying with her in-laws before moving back to Denver. They had spent 22 months on an around-the-world trip and had just returned to the United States. The couple chronicled their trip in an online blog.
"While we are very concerned for Ms. Bearden's welfare, there is no indication at this time that this is criminal in nature," the Garden Ridge Police Department said in a statement. Garden Ridge is a suburb of San Antonio.
Bearden was expecting a call about a job in Denver an hour after she went out for a short walk just after 5 p.m. on Jan. 17. She never returned and vanished without a trace.
She and her husband of four years were supposed to fly to their home in Denver on Jan. 28 to resume job searches.
"She left on her own free will. That is what she did. That is absolutely true, but what happened after she left the house on her own free will I don't know," her husband Josh told reporters.
Garden Ridge police said a formal search in the community will be conducted Saturday.
"Officials are asking that private volunteers and volunteer organizations refrain from searching this immediate area so not to interfere with the search or contaminate the area," police said. "Garden Ridge Police Department, Comal County Sheriff's Office, Comal County Constables, Schertz Police Department, Texas Rangers and Bracken First Responders will be supporting with the rescue."
