Police searching for man who assaulted a police officer during failed bank robbery in E. Denver

4 schools briefly locked down

DENVER - Police are searching for a suspect who assaulted a police officer during a failed bank robbery in east Denver on Wednesday morning.

The incident happened about 11:45 a.m. at the US Bank at East Colfax Avenue near Leyden Street.

Denver Police tweeted that the suspect is a white man, about 6-feet tall who was wearing a black hat, a red jacket and tan shorts. The man was carrying a backpack and may be armed with a gun.

Officials briefly locked down four schools in a one-mile radius of the bank.

Denver Public Schools said the schools affected were Odyssey Elementary School, Denver School of the Arts, Park Hill Elementary and Montclair Elementary School.
