Denver Police: Parents used 5-year-old to shoplift at King Soopers

DENVER - Denver Police said they cited a mother and father Saturday for using their child to help them shoplift at a grocery store.

Officers said they were called to the King Soopers on Quebec, in the Stapleton area, after a loss prevention officer saw the couple select several items, then allegedly conceal them.

When officers arrived, they determined the couple had put their 5-year-old in the shopping cart seat and were using him to conceal the items.

"The defendants then exited the store passing all points of sale without making any effort to pay for the concealed items," the officer wrote in the probable cause statement.

The parents were ticketed for shoplifting and wrongs to minors.
