Denver police officer shoots dog during arrest attempt; cops say suspect ordered dog to attack

DENVER - Denver police say an officer shot a dog during an arrest attempt Monday evening.

At about 7:30 p.m., officers attempted to arrest a wanted juvenile near 8th and Sheridan streets when the teen ordered his dog to attack an officer and fled the scene, according to tweets by the Denver Police Department.

Police tweeted that the officer shot the dog as it attacked, and that it was injured and being treated for its wounds.

Witnesses told 7NEWS that they heard five gunshots at the scene and saw Denver Animal Control officers carry away the dog and load it into a van.
