DENVER - A Denver police officer has been convicted of kidnapping and sexual assault of a female arrestee, according to the Denver District Attorney's office.

The Denver Post reported a jury Tuesday found 33-year-old Hector Paez guilty. Prosecutors accused Paez of driving the woman to a secluded spot and forcing her to perform oral sex in March 2010.

Paez claimed that he took the woman to a secluded location to question her about a drug dealer. Paez grasped his head and said, "I don't understand," when the verdict was read.

The woman has a criminal history that includes drug use and a prostitution conviction. Paez's defense attorney Gary Lozow said he will appeal.
