A Denver Police officer is behind bars facing possible charges of sexual assault.

31-year old Davin Munk, a three year veteran of the department, was arrested Tuesday night after police received a tip about an assault that happened in late April.

“It’s sad,” said police department spokesman Sonny Jackson, “but at the same time, we have to serve justice in all cases and there was probable cause.”

Jackson said Munk, who was hired in 2013, is being held at the Van Cise-Simonet Detention Center for investigation of multiple counts of sexual assault and one count of felony menacing.

“We had a situation where an outside agency said there was an allegation of sexual assault that occurred in Denver,” Jackson said. “We got the victim to come in and speak with us and learned that the suspect was a Denver police officer.  We arrested him a short time later.”

Jackson declined to name the reporting department, at that department's request, out of concern that doing so might help identify the victim.

Munk declined a jailhouse interview.

Police aren’t releasing his booking photo yet. They say it may be needed for further investigative purposes.

Additionally, Jackson said, the arrest affidavit and other records have been sealed “to protect the integrity of the investigation.”

When asked if the suspect knows the alleged victim, Jackson replied, “They had a quasi-relationship, I would say, yes.”

Records show that Munk has been disciplined before.

He received a written reprimand in January of 2015 for careless handling of department property.  Three months later, he received a suspension for conduct prejudicial. There is still a pending allegation of excessive force that was filed internally on December 14.

Munk has been suspended without pay pending the outcome of this most recent case.   DPD's administrative review will begin once the criminal case is complete.

He was in court Wednesday morning at 10 a.m.
