Denver police arrest carjacking suspect after standoff at home near Third Ave and Federal Blvd

DENVER - Denver police say they have arrested a carjacking suspect who was holed up in a house near West Third Avenue and Federal Boulevard on Thursday afternoon.

The suspect was arrested before 3 p.m. after SWAT officers using an armored car surrounded the home, said Denver Police spokesman Detective John White. Police had sent telephone alerts to area residents warning them about the situation.

Police had closed Federal Boulevard in the area during the standoff, backing up traffic, but Federal reopened at 3:22 p.m.

The carjacking was reported on West Mississippi Avenue at about 1:15 p.m., White said. Police spotted two men standing by the parked stolen vehicle near Third and Federal. Both men ran into a home as officers approached.

White said police arrested one man at the home, but did not find the second man during a search of the house.
