DENVER - Denver Police have a juvenile in custody after a shooting near West 5th Avenue and Knox Court just after noon on Sunday.
"There was a fight that started as a verbal altercation and turned physical," Denver police spokesman Sonny Jackson. "In the midst of that one of the individuals pulled a gun shooting one of the other people."
He said it was a "three on one" situation and the victim was shot in the back.
The shooting happened across the street from a Denver fire station.
One person was taken to the hospital in serious but stable condition just after noon, said Jackson.
Several people fled on foot, but were followed by a witness who alerted police to their location, said Sgt. Matt Clark.
Police and the Denver SWAT team surrounded the residence where the suspects fled and ordered everyone in the house to come out.
7NEWS was on the scene at West 4th Avenue and Hooker Street when police handcuffed a woman and a man in grey-striped shirts as they came out of a house with two other people.
"They came out one at a time," said Jackson. "We were able to get all four into custody, so we'll go ahead and talk to them and see who was involved."
Afterward, police said four of the five people were released but police were holding a juvenile suspect for investigation of attempted murder.
