Police arrest wanted robbery-assault suspect at a Lakewood motel after he runs from Denver officers

DENVER - Police have arrested a man wanted on robbery and assault warrants at a Lakewood motel after he ran from officers in west Denver, triggering a search on Wednesday afternoon.

7NEWS photojournalist Coby Howell videotaped Lakewood police leading the handcuffed suspect from the Chalet Motel at 6051 W. Alameda Ave. to a patrol car at about 4 p.m. Police have not identified the 30-year-old man.

The arrest happened less than 3 miles southwest of West 10th Avenue and Perry Street, where the man fled from police about 2 p.m. The suspect jumped a fence and ran when officers approached him, said Denver Police spokesman Sonny Jackson.

Police closed off streets in the area during the search near the Lakewood Gulch Trail and Martinez Park.

Jackson says the suspect has a lengthy criminal history and has outstanding warrants for robbery and assault.
