ANCHORAGE - A Denver man and another man face assault charges after a confrontation with two guests at a tourist lodge in Southeast Alaska.
The Anchorage Daily News reports the two men, Michael York of Colorado and Devon Fernandez of Virginia, were being transferred Monday to the Anchorage jail. Neither man had an attorney listed in online court records.
Yakutat Police Chief Robert Baty says the two men became highly intoxicated Friday night at Icy Bay Lodge about 65 miles west of Yakutat. They confronted a couple from California over mining and its effects on Alaska. The pair had been exploring the area with the possibility of mining. Investigators say they were not drinking.
Baty says both men threatened the couple with firearms at one point before the lodge manager separated everyone. There were no injuries.
