Denkai Animal Sanctuary rescues 9 horses at auction

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Denkai Animal Sanctuary said it rescued nine horses from auction this week.

The sanctuary in Fort Collins went to the auction planning to buy six horses that had been abandoned. However, when the sanctuary got there, they also bought a palomino paint mare, a malnourish gelding and a neglected pony.

"The sale barn in Fort Collins was accommodating and very cooperative as to our cause and reason for entering their arena," Denkai's Floss Blackburn said.

At auction, horses are sold by the pound. The sanctuary paid $4,200 for the horses.

The sanctuary has found homes for six of the horses. The others need more care.
