Demolition of old Fan Fare building in Aurora starts Tuesday

AURORA, Colo. - The abandoned Aurora building with the bubble-shaped rooftop will be demolished Tuesday.

The old Fan Fare building at 333 Havana St., near East 3rd Avenue, was built in the 1960s and hasn't had any private investment since 1982, officials said.

The public is invited to view the demolition demonstration from Geneva Street along the west side of the building or from nearby businesses.

Ghana International Market, 495 Havana St., offers one of the better vantage points.

The Aurora Urban Renewal Authority (AURA) agreed about a year ago to purchase the Fan Fare property for $4 million following site clean-up and demolition, officials said.

The building is expected to be down by the end of January and the clean-up efforts should be finished by the spring of 2014.

AURA will issue a Request for Proposals for redevelopment of the site by the end of 2014.
