Driver killed in collision with RTD bus identified

DENVER - A 61-year-old Denver man died in a crash involving an RTD bus early Tuesday morning near Santa Fe Dr. and W. Mississippi Ave.

The RTD bus was traveling southbound on S. Platte River Dr. and a white car was traveling westbound on Mississippi when the collision occurred, said 7NEWS Reporter Eric Lupher.

"It appears a man’s body is still in the driver’s seat," Lupher said at 4 a.m.

On Tuesday afternoon, the victim was identified as Joseph Tracy. The cause of death has not yet been released.

An RTD bus was stopped about 200 yards down S. Platte River Dr. with its hazard lights on, Lupher reported.

A tow truck removed the RTD bus at about 5 a.m.

The driver of the RTD bus was not hurt, according to the Denver Police Department. The bus was not carrying any passengers at the time of the crash.

The wreck was removed and all lanes were reopened just before 5:30 a.m.
