Woman dies in Clear Creek Canyon crash

GOLDEN, Colo. - A woman died in a crash on U.S. 6 in Clear Creek Canyon on Wednesday.

Golden Police said a motorist called at 6:16 a.m. on Wednesday and said she saw a car go into the creek, but couldn't find the vehicle.

Firefighters spotted the car about a quarter mile away, near mile marker 268, between Tunnels 1 and 2.

Officials said the car was submerged in high, swift water and there appears to be at least one victim in the car.

Firefighters were able to reach the vehicle Wednesday afternoon and the vehicle was pulled from the creek.  The woman's body was found still inside.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office is working to identify the victim.

There is no word yet what caused the crash.  The Colorado State Patrol is in charge of the investigation.
