A viewer called KJCT-TV in Grand Junction after seeing the white stripe painted over the body of the cat on H Road.
Mesa County officials said the painting crew of two workers in a vehicle traveling eight miles per hour didn't see the cat. However, officials said if the crew had seen the cat, gotten out and removed it, the crew could have been put at risk.
"We’ll take this opportunity to review our policies on this and revise them if necessary," Mesa County spokesman Ryan Cook said.
