GOLDEN, Colo. - A senior citizen walked into the police department in Golden Thursday evening and was arrested on murder charges.
Police said Monday that relatives of 65-year-old David Reathman called officers to check on the terminally ill man.
When officers arrived, they said they found a dead body. But it wasn't Reathman -- it was his wife, 70-year-old Barbara Reathman.
David Reathman was not home.
Officers issued a media alert asking for help finding Reathman. He turned himself at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
Detectives said they had developed evidence to have David Reathman held on charges of murder in the first degree. Reathman is being held without bond in the Jefferson County Jail, a place he worked at until he retired last year. He oversaw inmates in the work program.
Investigators said they don't know Barbara Reathman's s cause of death. They only said her death appeared suspicious.
