ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. - Deputies said they have arrested a driver who they believe was drunk when he crossed into oncoming traffic and hit a car head-on killing the other driver.
The Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office said the crash happened around 9:15 p.m. Sunday on Reservoir Road near Quincy Reservoir and Quincy Avenue.
When deputies arrived, they said they found three vehicles had been involved in the crash and that several people were hurt.
The driver of one car was trapped in the wreckage. Deputies said that victim died at the scene. That person's identity has not yet been released.
"It's absolutely tragic. It was absolutely tragic," said David Walcher, Arapahoe County Undersheriff. "My heart goes out to the victims in this case"
The Sheriff's Office said several other victims were taken to the hospital for treatment. Their conditions have not been released.
Dashane McKee, 34, was arrested on suspicion of vehicular homicide, vehicular assault, driving under the influence of alcohol and careless driving causing death.
"Based upon their investigation last night they have probable cause to believe that alcohol was a factor in this and consistent with the statute, pursuant to the statute, they developed the probable cause to make the arrest and book the individual into our jail on these charges," Walcher said.
McKee is being held on $50,000 bond.
