DENVER -- Thousands of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) recipients here in Colorado are waiting to see what happens next after the Trump Administration announced to end the program.
While Congress decides what to do with the program over the next six months, DACA recipients in the Denver area put on a workshop Saturday on the Auraria campus.
Immigration attorneys and volunteers gathered to answer any questions and help renew permits.
"My thing is, I can't do much right now besides support, but at least I think I can give resources to help those that are eligible to renew for the next two years," said Maria Torres.
Torres studies in Denver and is a DACA recipient. She said she wanted to help others by organizing the DACA workshop.
Under the new policy, DACA recipients with permits that expire between now and March 5, 2018, can get their permits renewed if the paper work is in before October 5, 2017.
Permits that expire after March 6, 2018, will not be renewed.
One DACA recipient at the workshop told Denver7 her permit expires after the March cutoff date.
"Anything can happen right now, and if we don't make it, we'll find another way," said Sandra Martinez-Altamirano. "We might move to Canada."
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration services are no longer accepting new applications for the DACA permit.
